This pet portrait of Sebastian has such wonderful colors and texture. It took a lot of layering to get the background to complement him just right, not too strong, and not too subtle. His dark head and white body was a bit tricky to work with when painting in the background; however, these ccolors work out well. See the original photo…
Sebastian is developing wonderfully. Just a few more sessions are needed to work on him. I want to place him in a rich, deep color for the background, perhaps, a sienna, deep smokey blue, or ruby. See the original photo…
This work in progress is of Sebastian, a Springer Spaniel Bench Breed. Sebastian, a sweetheart of a dog who lives in Verona, PA, is a real hearthrob of a pup. This painting is developing nicely. The natural colors are softly beginning to sculpt Sebastian’s form. Later, as the painting develops more, I will begin to add in the delicate features of his fur, lastly, the radiance of the sun will bring him and the overall painting to life. That is my favorite part of painting, adding the life.

Alison,
The painting is just fantastic.. I love the background color. Can’t wait to pick it up.
You nailed his personality completely from the photo.
